The Belgrade Plaza development has helped give the city’s newest hotelier a room with a view. Premier Inn, the country’s largest and fastest growing hotel operator, is set to open at the new £150 million mixed-use scheme in spring 2009. The company, which operates 532 hotels across the UK, has signed up for 119-bed hotel at Belgrade Plaza, which will create a new leisure, culture and entertainment quarter in the city centre. John Bates, of Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants – owners of Premier Inn, was the first to try one of the new high level rooms out for size. He said: “It is always exciting bringing a city centre hotel on-line and this is an important project for us. “We were one of the first companies to sign up to Belgrade Plaza and are looking forward to being part of what is clearly a key development for the city. “We have several hotels around the Coventry area but this is the first in the city centre and we are very confident that our offer of good quality rooms, comfortable surroundings and friendly service – all at a highly competitive price – will not only prove popular but also attract people to stop in the city.” Developer Oakmoor Deeley has attracted a host of leisure names including Metro Bar and Grill, Bella Italia, Pizza Express, Radisson Edwardian and Gala Casinos to Belgrade Plaza. Kieran Leahy, of Oakmoor Deeley said: “Premier Inn is massively popular across the UK with more than 37,500 rooms in 532 hotels and we are sure that the new Coventry operation will continue that success. “It has always been our intention to bring hotel rooms to the centre of the city and believe that the combination of operators we have singed up not only complement each other but also bring something new to Coventry. “Belgrade Plaza will be a landmark development and we wanted to give John a taste of the views his customers will experience when the development opens next year.” Shortland Horne and Wright Silverwood are agents on the scheme. ![]() John Bates with (from left) Manoj Bhardwaj, Tim Hurdiss, Peter Deeley, Kieran Leahy, James Crouch, all of Oakmoor Deeley |
